AUCKLAND NZ FILIPINO COMMUNITY AND PHILIPPINE EMBASSY LAUNCH “PINOY WE CARE PLATFORM”

On May 6, 2017, the Filipino Community and Philippine Embassy in New Zealand launched the multi-sectoral partnership “Pinoy We Care.” The partnership is a “network of groups and individuals working together to support successful settlement of Filipinos in Auckland. “  Its Mission and Vision Statement are as follows:

Mission Statement:

WE are a network of Filipino civil society organisations and individuals working together as partners of the Philippine Embassy in the mission to protect the rights and welfare of Filipinos in Auckland, New Zealand.

Our Vision:

  • New migrants are well-informed and able to access vital information and settlement support services.
  •  Bayanihan spirit is alive and thriving.
  • Newcomers feel welcome and connected to the community.

We enjoin all Filipinos who share our vision to get involved in:

  • Caring for, counselling and protection of Filipinos facing critical issues like family violence, bullying, discrimination and abuses in the workplace.
  • Advocating for the rights of the most vulnerable migrants i.e. international students and temporary visa holders.
  • Recreating inclusive community, strengthening connections and restoring pride in the best of Filipino.
  • Engaging in dialogue with relevant government agencies towards better delivery of services to the communities

WE welcome everyone to join us in service of the Filipino community in Auckland, with special attention to new migrants who are vulnerable to exploitation and are struggling to settle in the early years of their journey to NZ.

The Pinoy We Care partnership launch is the result of extensive consultations and dialogue among the Filipino Community in Auckland.  The city is New Zealand’s largest, and is the home of nearly 30,000 Filipinos.  Spearheading the platform were the organizations Migrante Aotearoa, Caring For Humanity International Foundation, Organization of Cordillerans in NZ, St. Patrick Filipino Catholic Group, and the FILNZ Fellowship.

Chairing the launch was Mr. Dennis Maga, Co-ordinator of the Union Network of Migrants (UNEMIG), with Ambassador Jesus S. Domingo representing the Philippine Embassy.
