The Philippine Embassy in Wellington led by Ambassador Kira Christianne D. Azucena joined members of the Filipino community in New Zealand in showing support for the Philippine Men's National Basketball Team Gilas Pilipinas when they visited New Zealand for their game against New Zealand's Tall Blacks on 23 February 2025.

Team Gilas' game against the Tall Blacks at the Spark Arena in Auckland, which was sold out to capacity, was their final game in the 1st Round Qualifiers of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia Cup 2025. Both the Philippines and New Zealand move on to the 2nd Round of the FIP Cup 2025.
