Philippine Embassy, AUT sign donation agreement to host international conference on PH studies in Auckland in 2027
Auckland, New Zealand. 29 May 2026 — A significant step in advancing Philippine studies globally was marked today with the signing of a donation agreement between the Philippine Embassy in New Zealand and Auckland University of Technology (AUT).

The milestone was made possible through the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs and the support of the Office of Senator Loren Legarda, whose advocacy includes the global promotion of Philippine culture, heritage, and academic scholarship.
The agreement formalizes the Embassy’s commitment and support for the International Conference on Philippine Studies to be hosted by the AUT Philippine Studies Hub and the Philippine Studies Network Aotearoa New Zealand scheduled to take place in February 2027 at the AUT City Campus in Auckland.
The conference will serve as the second installment of Dialogo, a global platform focused on bringing together academics, researchers, and policymakers in advancing Philippine studies worldwide. Its theme is “(Re)Imagining the Global Filipino: Roots, Knowledges, Communities, and Collective Futures”
Her Excellency Ambassador Kira Christianne D. Azucena signed the agreement on behalf of the Philippine Embassy, while Vice Chancellor Damon Salesa represented AUT. During the signing ceremony, Ambassador Azucena emphasized that the partnership signifies a shared investment in knowledge, education, and cultural diplomacy.
“This ceremonial signing is more than an agreement; it stands for our collective commitment to fostering mutual understanding, respect, and the proliferation of Philippine studies on a global scale," noted Ambassador Azucena. She also expressed her gratitude to the members of the Philippine Studies Network for their tireless efforts in organizing activities, including the forthcoming international conference.
Vice Chancellor Salesa reciprocated the Embassy’s sentiments, expressing his appreciation for the initiative. "We are delighted by this growing collaboration with the Philippine Embassy and are particularly thrilled to see the increasing participation of Filipino students and professionals at AUT. This partnership aligns perfectly with our commitment to diversity, community building, and academic excellence," he said.
The Philippine Embassy’s donation will provide critical funding and resources to support the successful realization of the International Conference on Philippine Studies. This collaborative event aims to deepen the academic exploration of Filipino identity and heritage and to foster meaningful dialogues on the future of Filipino communities globally.
