Philippine Embassy in New Zealand holds a town hall meeting with Filipino artists
Wellington - The Philippine Embassy in New Zealand convened a town hall meeting with Filipino artists based in Wellington on 10 June 2026 at the Hutt Art Centre. The gathering aimed to foster dialogue between the Embassy and members of the Filipino artistic community, while exploring opportunities for collaboration and future cultural engagement.

The meeting was held in conjunction with the Sinag art exhibition, which showcases the works of Filipino artists in New Zealand. Ambassador Kira Christianne Azucena attended and supported the exhibition’s opening night on 9 June 2026.
The Sinag exhibition featured the works of Filipino artists Mr. Alan Raga, Mr. JM Beltran, Ms. Chinkee Swanson, Mr. Ariel Reyes, Mr. Al Legaspi, Mr. JC Pineda, Ms. Jane Calingan, Mr. ER Hapal, Ms. Flora Nogoy, Ms. Ar-em Bañas, and Ms. Fara Manuel.
During the meeting, Ambassador Azucena expressed her appreciation for the artists’ contributions to promoting Philippine culture and heritage in New Zealand. She also welcomed their willingness to work closely with the Embassy and assured them of the Embassy’s support for initiatives that celebrate Filipino creativity and strengthen cultural ties between the Philippines and New Zealand.
The town hall provided a valuable platform for participants to share their experiences, discuss challenges and opportunities facing Filipino artists, and exchange ideas on future projects. It also served as an avenue to align expectations, address concerns, and explore ways to move forward collectively in advancing the visibility of Filipino arts and culture in New Zealand. END
