Statement of appreciation for donations for the victims of the Cebu and Bohol earthquake and the Zamboanga flooding

/ news

As relief assistance, donations, aid and prayers continue to pour into the Philippines from all over the country itself, Filipino communities abroad, foreign governments, international organizations and numerous individuals, associations, and groups worldwide for the victims of the earthquake in Cebu and Bohol and the floods in Zamboanga, we would like to reiterate our deep appreciation to the Government and People of New Zealand for contributing $850,000 in humanitarian assistance to the Philippines. Once again, New Zealand demonstrates that it is a close friend and partner of the Philippines and the Filipino people showing its deep compassion during times of crises. As always New Zealand’s generosity and graciousness will help alleviate the suffering and plight of those affected by the disasters.

“Bayanihan” (spirit of volunteerism and coming together) in times of adversity is a time-honoured Filipino trait and we can see and feel it in nations like New Zealand as it responds to the United Nations’ (UN) international appeal for aid in the Philippines.
