/ news

At the Environmental Diplomacy Symposium 2025: A Global Call for Climate Action organized by New Zealand Institute of International Affairs (NZIIA) held at the Zealandia Ecosanctuary in Wellington, Ambassador Kira Azucena shared the Philippines' approach to community-based conservation, the role of indigenous knowledge in environmental protection, and the importance of international partnerships in preserving biodiversity.

“Conservation is a shared responsibility - requiring international cooperation, provision of technical and financial support to developing countries, policy reforms, and strong community engagement,” she said to an audience of students, environmental experts, diplomats and policymakers. She talked about the Philippine Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2015-2028 whose vision is that by 2028, biodiversity is restored and rehabilitated, valued and secured, maintaining ecosystem services to sustain healthy, resilient Filipino communities and delivering benefits to all.
